Remortgage

We help you make sure you have the right structure for your mortgage

Remortgaging entails altering your existing mortgage arrangement. This can involve either switching to a different lender or remaining with your current lender but obtaining a different interest rate.

The concept of remortgaging is to either reduce your monthly mortgage installments or access funds from your property by borrowing a larger amount against its value. Occasionally, you can achieve both objectives simultaneously.

While it may seem intricate, it’s a straightforward process – securing a superior rate to increase your savings. We possess extensive expertise in remortgaging and are well-equipped to assist you in discovering the most advantageous deal.

What you need to know about remortgaging...

The timeline

The duration of the process hinges on whether you’re changing your lender or not. Typically, it takes approximately six weeks to transition to a new mortgage deal with the same lender. However, if you’re seeking to switch to a different lender, the process will be lengthier.

To avoid any frustrating delays, we recommend initiating this process well in advance – ideally, around six months before your current rate expires.

If you’re not fully prepared to proceed immediately, don’t worry. You won’t be obliged to switch as soon as you receive approval. A typical mortgage offer typically carries a validity period of three months, affording you additional time if necessary.

What do I need to provide when remortgaging?

Ensuring that all your documentation is prepared beforehand is crucial, as any missing paperwork can significantly delay your remortgage process. Many of the required documents are identical to those needed for your initial mortgage application.

You will need high-resolution scans of the following documents:

  • Proof of income
  • Proof of address
  • An official form of ID (such as a passport of driving license)
  • Bank statements
  • Details of your most recent mortgage arrangements

You may have to pay an early repayment charge to your existing lender if you remortgage.
